A Different Approach to Web Design Training
Our Philosophy in Online Learning
Most online web training takes one of two approaches.
The first is low key with little or no homework or required reading, maybe a few exercises assigned and that's about it. The total time needed to complete the exercises and read the short online lessons is 1-2 hours per week. These classes tend to have a very broad overview, perspective. While they may be a nice introduction, they are not going to leave you with more than a superficial knowledge of the course subject
The other approach is intensive with a lot of reading, both online and offline from a required book. Homework assignments are required to be submitted daily. The level of commitment required is 2-3 hours or more a day per day. While this is an excellent approach for short intensive courses with a limited topic, it is not a pace that can be sustained by most people. Only those people who are taking the class as part of their day to day job and whose company allows them sufficient time during the workday to complete their class assignments can keep up with such an intensive pace.
Our approach takes the middle ground with a combination of required reading and exercises with instructors who actually uses what they are teaching on a regular basis. Between the reading and exercise the estimated time commitment is approximately 5 hours per week. The reading gives you the knowledge but it is the practical experience of the exercises and the feedback on your assignments that will help you to truly learn the subject. The primary benefit to this online class structure is that your interaction with the class is on your schedule.
Each class has its own classroom and only those students enrolled in the class will have access to that classroom. Every classroom has:
- A place for your instructor to post lectures, reading and other assignments,
- A place for related links,
- A glossary,
- A forum for you and your classmates to post your questions and assignments.,
- At the instructor's option:
- The ability to provide you with a zip file of the lectures, assignments and other course materials
- Quizzes,
- Private messages and/or chat features.
Class size is limited to ensure that students get a timely response to questions and reviews of assignments as they are posted.
The reading material will all be included with the class and available either in an ebook format or can be downloaded from the classroom in zip format for reading off-line.
We look forward to having you join us for an online learning experience.
